How our Yoga Teacher Training is the ultimate holisitic immersion in Yoga

Yoga has been widely popularised as a fitness exercise, the mention of yoga instantaneously frames a picture of asanas or physical postures in our minds. We believe that this approach is a disgrace to the authenticity and purpose of Yoga and our yoga courses as well as yoga ashram are designed to inculcate the eight limbs of Yoga as described by Sage Patanjali in Patanjali Yog Sutras

Yama (Restraints)

In your Yoga philosophy sessions, you will learn the significance of moral discipline required before you build a strong foundation in yoga, you will also be encouraged to practice these vows at your time in the yoga ashram – Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truthfulness), Asteya (non-stealing), Brahmacharya (actions driven by pure consciousness), Aparigraha (non-greed/ no possessiveness)

Niyama (Observances)

Our mind can be the greatest tool we have, but we also see an undisciplined mind is the cause of most of our miseries, inviting all kinds of anxieties, stress and psychosomatic diseases. In our yoga teacher training, you will not only learn but experience niyama (observances) as tools to discipline the mind – Saucha (cleanliness), Santosha (contentment), Tapas (Self-Discipline), Svadhyaya (Self Introspection) and Ishvar Pranidhana (surrender to the higher power)

Asana (Postures)

Strength, flexibility and physical fitness are merely byproducts of asana practice. The ultimate goal of asanas practice is to prepare the body’s ability to sit long hours without any discomfort for the practice of meditation. In our yoga teacher training, you will learn the asana styles of ashtanga vinyasa and hatha yoga with one session of each style every day with the support of experienced yoga instructors.

Pranayama (Breath Control)

Our living condition depends on oxygen and breathing is the primary activity that drives vital force through our body. Pranayama is the conscious control of prolongation, retention and exhalation of the breath. Prolongation and retention refer to the act of receiving and retaining this energy within us and exhalation is not just the release of Co2 but also our thoughts and emotions. You will learn the philosophy and practices of Pranayama, the yogic art of breathing including the Shatkarma (cleansing) activities that aide in the pranayama and asana practices.

Pratyahara (Withdrawal of the Senses)

Sensory pleasures create distractions and disorder for the mind leading us to participate in mindless activities and numerous needless addictions. By learning the significance of Pratyahara in our yoga courses, you will experience increased awareness of the external sensory stimuli but with conscious detachment, non-judgement and quieting the senses you will experience deep mental clarity and space for focus, concentration and meditation.

Dharana (Concentration)

People often express the inability to sit in meditation and observe silence within the mind. Concentration or one pointedness of the mind is a prerequisite to the state of meditation and it is a gradual process of training the mind to cultivate mental focus, clarity and stability. You will be subjected to different practices – mantra chanting, trataka (candle flame gazing), sound healing sessions- throughout our yoga teacher training course which will help you do this.

Dhyana (Meditation)

Meditation is not a practice but a state of deep focused concentration and awareness. By practicing the preceding limbs, one can achieve the state of oneness with the object of meditation. The entire environment of our yoga ashram and not just the content of the course is designed around helping you to increase your awareness and mental clarity so that you can experience this state gradually through all practices combined.

Samadhi (Union/Enlightenment)

Samadhi is the ultimate goal of yoga where you are one with the divine and all that’s there. We of course do not in any away endorse that we can teach Samadhi or enlighten anyone. But we do believe that all of us can together curate a space and community where we dedicate ourselves to this philosophy and continue on the journey, where all is one and united.
